History
Our guild was formed in 1983 with a mission is to promote the crafts and art of spinning, handweaving, and dyeing. Our name refers to the tall pine trees that prosper on the north side of Houston, where we meet.
Meetings
At our club meetings, we meet and share what we've been doing, and learn about new and old techniques and skills. Each meeting begins with a social time, followed by club business and a program. We meet the first Tueday of the month at 7 pm at Paradise Springs, 5600 Cypresswood Drive in Spring.
Workshops
We have workshops featuring a wealth of local and national instructors, including Karen Selk, Bonnie Tarses, Rita Buchanan, and Celia Quinn.
Volunteer Opportunities
Tall Pines members are active in volunteering, demonstrating weaving and spinning around the city, including Jesse Jones Park, Wunderlich Farm and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
Membership Benefits
Members have access to the guild's library, containing books, DVD's, magazines, and samples. Members also have access to the guild equipment so you can try out a spinning wheel or loom. Our club periodically has special group projects and workshops focusing on weaving spinning or dyeing - sometimes all together! Our current project is to spin and weave yardage using natural fibers for an upcoming movie set in biblical times.
Membership
Dues are $25 per year, with our fiscal year begnning in July.
